What To Pack in Your Trans Girl Emergency Bag So You Can Stay Safe Everywhere You Go
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably a small control freak and you love planning things down to the smallest detail. How I wish life were that simple, but unfortunately, it’s not.
That’s why, as trans women, we need to be prepared for any kind of situation that we might face. Being prepared can make a world of difference and make us feel safer. If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry, I’ve got you.

Today, I’ll walk you through 7 things you need to pack in your trans girl emergency bag. But before we start, let’s talk about why you should have this special bag with you.
Why Do You Need a Trans Girl Emergency Bag?
As much as I’d love to come here and tell you that your life is going to be okay and that you should shine like a goddess, it would be unfair for me to leave out the negative parts of being a trans woman.
According to the National Center for Transgender Equality, 1 in 5 trans people have been assaulted because of others being biased against them.

I hope that this never happens to you, but unfortunately, we live in a cruel world. And as your big sister, I also need to prepare you for the worst.
A trans girl’s emergency bag is your go-to kit with essentials that you’ll need in any kind of safety emergency. Plus, you can also use it as your overnight bag if you’re sleeping away from your home.
Now that you know why you need it, let’s dive in and discuss each item that you should pack in your trans girl emergency bag.

7 Emergency Things You Absolutely Need In Your Trans Girl Bag
1. Cash and ID
This might come as a no-brainer for you, but sometimes we tend to forget the simplest things. So the first thing you need to throw in your trans girl emergency bag is some solid cash.
You’re probably thinking, ‘Why should I carry some cash with me if I have my credit card?’ But what happens if you lose your wallet or if it gets stolen?
How will you get home?

So to avoid getting stranded, always carry some cash with you. And I’m not talking about 5 or 10 dollars, but at least 100 dollars. This should be enough to cover your Uber and, if needed, a hotel room for a few nights.
Some great places to hide your cash are in your shoes or a hidden jacket pocket.

Another thing you should always carry with you is your ID, especially if you’re going to a transgender bar. That’s because sometimes the cops raid these places, and I’ve seen cases where other trans women were wrongfully accused as sex workers because they couldn’t identify themselves. To avoid this messy situation, I recommend that you pack your ID in this special bag.
2. Makeup Purse
The second thing you need in your emergency bag is a small makeup purse with a few essentials. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t need to carry your entire makeup kit, but just these 3 things:

Concealer: Nothing works magic like a great concealer to help you hide dark circles around your eyes and any spots on your face. Plus, you can also use it to cover your beard shadow and look more feminine.
Contour Stick: If you’re planning to wear an off-shoulder top or a V-neck dress, carry a contour stick that is at least two shades darker than your skin tone to help you hide your Adam’s apple.
Lip Gloss: As a trans girl, don’t let anyone catch you looking rusty with chapped lips. So carry a lip gloss or two in your trans girl emergency bag.
3. Trans-Girl Feminine Products
After packing your makeup purse, the next thing you absolutely need in this bag is enough feminine products for any kind of emergency.

Some of the ones in my trans girl bag are:
- Tucking tape
- Feminine wipes
- Scented Lotion
- Deodorant
- Two pairs of clean underwear
- A small toothbrush and toothpaste
- A small soap
- Half a roll of tissue
These are perfect for any situation, especially if you need to leave on the go or if you’ll be sleeping over at your crush’s.
4. A Small & Cheap Backup Phone
I know that some people will fight me on this one and say that it’s unnecessary, but I stand by it 100%.

Can you imagine the horror of losing your phone, being stranded, and not having a way to call your friends or family? That’s exactly what I went through a few years ago when someone stole my phone late at night, and since then, I have always carried a backup phone.
It doesn’t have to be an expensive one, actually, the cheaper the phone, the better. Remember that you only need it for an emergency, so it only needs to have basic functions like texting and calling. Also, don’t forget to pre-load it with at least 3 emergency contacts that you can speed dial.

If you’re going home late and you find yourself walking in a dark alley, I’d advise you to hide your backup phone in a place where no one would suspect. You can wrap it around your breast form or get one of those bras with a built-in pocket. Another great hiding place is inside a pad and throwing it in your purse.
Lastly, remember that your backup phone is your secret, so keep it on silent so that it can’t be detected. And always share your live location with at least one friend that you trust.

5. Self-Defense Items
If you forget anything from this list, please remember at least this one because it could be the one that saves your life.
Like I said before, we live in a world with cruel and biased people who might feel the need to attack you because you are different. This can get even more scary if it’s your first time travelling as a trans woman and you are miles away from home.
To protect yourself, I recommend these self-defense items:

Pepper spray: It’s the perfect weapon to use when a stranger is approaching you and wants to hurt you. To use it, aim for their eyes and then make a run for it. If you are wearing heels, please leave them behind. You can always buy other sexy heels, but you can’t get your life back.
Whistle: If your attacker is too far for you to use your pepper spray, use a whistle to call for help. Trust me, they’ll end up running away before people come to your rescue. If you’ll be walking home alone in a secluded place, carry it in your hand so you don’t have to scramble through your bag to find it.

Pocket Knife: Hopefully, it doesn’t come to this extreme, but if your attacker is overpowering you and threatening your life, use a pocket knife to protect yourself. Aim for non-fatal parts like their upper arm or outer thigh, then run as fast as you can.
6. First Aid Items
Your trans girl emergency bag wouldn’t be complete without some good old-fashioned first aid items. These will come in handy just in case you get hurt and you’re not close to any gender-affirming clinic or hospital.
Some first-aid things you can add are:

- A pack of painkillers like ibuprofen
- Antiseptic wipes
- Bandages
- Anti-chafing cream to soothe your skin when you tuck
- Enough Hormone Replacement Therapy pills for at least 3 days
7. A Comfort Item
The last thing you need in your trans girl emergency bag is my personal favourite: your comfort item.
We all have one special thing that reminds us of home. It can be a necklace that you hold in your hand every time you are anxious, your childhood teddy bear, a family photo, or even your mom’s perfume.

Whatever it is for you, pack it in your special bag so that if you’re far from home, it can ground you and give you hope and courage.
Conclusion
That’s it, love. I know today’s topic was a bit heavy, but the point of our community is for us to openly talk about things. This includes the good, the bad, and even the ugly.
Plus, prevention is better than a cure.
But this doesn’t mean that you should live your life in fear. You have every right to live a carefree and happy life. By staying ready, you can get through absolutely anything.

If you’re travelling for the first time as a trans woman, I recommend that you start with some crossdresser-friendly places.
Stay alert and stay safe. Cheers.
