Common Voice Feminization Mistakes

04/30/2022

Hello, lovelies! Today, we are going to talk about some of the biggest and most common mistakes when feminizing your voice.

Because most of us here, if not all, want to embody femininity with a voice that fits it.

Common Voice Feminization Mistakes

When we dress up or are looking for a voice that represents us, we want to feel characterized by the sound coming out of our mouths.

If not warned, it is easy to make some mistakes like speaking in falsetto or speaking too low.

To find and project your inner voice to the outside, you have to put your soul and vocal muscles to work.

In this article, you’ll find the most common mistakes everyone makes when they are starting.

Start perfecting your feminine voice with these easy tips!

1. Speaking in Falsetto

Falsetto is a vocal technique that produces the highest note within one’s vocal range.

Voice actors use this a lot when dubbing cartoons. This is exactly why you don’t want to speak in falsetto.

Even though it is the easiest way to raise the pitch of your voice, it won’t make you sound more feminine.

You will sound cartoonish and unnatural. With the right training of both your ear and vocal muscles, you can reach a higher pitch while achieving a feminine voice.

But in a way that sounds natural and not out of a movie.

2. Super-Fixating on the pitch

Because the most distinctive trait between a female and a male voice is the pitch, it doesn’t mean that’s the only thing important.

As we have seen before, caring only for the pitch will lead to speaking in falsetto and sounding unnatural.

Every voice has a range of pitches that are naturally produced according to your anatomy and customs.

When feminizing your voice, it is easy to care only for how high you can go.

Don’t try to raise your pitch that much. Instead, focus on the low sounds you are NOT producing.

Speak on the higher part of your range and avoid going low.

This way, you’ll be getting one step closer to sounding feminine and natural!

3. Overthinking and Getting Overwhelmed

The human body is a very complex mechanism that’s very hard to understand, but it works.

When we are learning to feminize our voice, it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the information going around.

Many new concepts and exercises can help you understand and perfect your voice.

Take your time to read whatever you find most helpful. You may find one exercise yielded better results than the other, for instance.

Don’t fixate on something frustrating. And don’t try to isolate and control every muscle in your throat while practicing.

Think of the process as a whole, just as if you were learning a new dance step.

Imagine what you want to do and practice doing it with the help of exercises.

Your vocal muscles will learn this way how to do what you are looking for.

4. Using Too Many Training Methods

When you start to feminize your voice, it’s better to keep it simple and stick with only one method.

Stick with one regime that fits your needs and practice a lot before trying to learn other techniques.

Take your time to learn one method first and see the results for yourself.

Using many different methods at once will be confusing and slow down your progress.

There’s another nasty thing as to why avoid changing between regimens: you can hurt your vocal strings.

When you follow a program, the exercises included are thought to be practiced together.

Not only to achieve better results but also to keep your muscles from getting stressed.

Different exercises within one training program work one specific part of the process, allowing the rest of the parts involved to rest and relax periodically.

That’s why if you think one program isn’t working, first evaluate how much time and effort you have put into it.

Maybe you are just anxious about getting better and trying to rush through the lessons without practicing enough.

5. Whispering or Speaking Too Low

Let’s be clear: in this paragraph, I will use “low” to refer to something that’s hardly audible, as in low volume.

Not to be confused with low-frequency sounds.

Many crossdressers and trans women alike make the mistake of hiding their voices beneath whispers.

This is, for me, one of the biggest mistakes, and here’s why.

When we wish to feminize our voice to match our feelings, we must work to find it constantly.

Whispering or speaking very low sets a barrier in our minds that keeps us from improving.

It not only does not feminize our voice in any way but also makes relating with others very uncomfortable.

6. Not Listening

Ironically enough, a common mistake is not listening to the sound they produce or want to.

We learn to speak and sing through mimicking.

By hearing a sound and trying to reproduce it in any way, our muscles associate the movement with it.

This is how we learn to play any instrument or to speak any language.

To incorporate the process and make it feel natural, first, we must pay close attention to the sound.

Whether it is your recorded voice or a source of inspiration, be critical of what you hear to see how you can improve.

I recommend you hear a lot of voices for inspiration to look for some that can feel more natural for you and practice it.

7. Being Hard on Yourself

Nobody perfected anything overnight. Learning something new requires time, patience, and practice.

Don’t be hard on yourself because you are not achieving the results you wished for.

This negative thinking will only set you back in the search for your voice. It also is not the same for everybody.

Sometimes, trying a different exercise or guide can give birth to a big breakthrough.

Think of how much you’ve got so far and where you want to go, and you’ll get there!

These are the most common mistakes we all make when practicing our feminine voice.

It is possible to find the voice that speaks for your soul.

Practicing and avoiding these mistakes will get you closer than you can think.
