How Gender-neutral Clothing Helps Cross-dressers

10/08/2022

Cross-dressers tend to buy gender-specific clothes for their dress-up sessions. But maintaining a feminine wardrobe as a man can be a considerable challenge. Many of us don’t know that cross-dressers and trans people can wear gender-neutral clothes. It helps us in many ways, but these advantages are not as well-spread as they should be. As a result, our sisters cant enjoy them.

How Gender-neutral Clothing Helps Cross-dressers

My goal in this article is to discuss gender-neutral outfits and their advantages for cross-dressers and trans people. They can help you affirm your gender identity and allow you to cross-dress in public more often. Besides that, you can combine them with gender-specific clothes to improve the effect. If you’re curious about such advantages, I encourage you to keep reading.

1. They can be gender-affirming

Gender-neutral clothes can be gender-affirming in a unique way. They are not an example of femininity but aren’t inherently masculine either. If you let the makeup do its job, these clothes will naturally look feminine in you. They are designed to be neutral and adaptable. But traditional masculine clothes would ruin the illusion or at least look awkward. Cross-dressing beginners may also find them more comfortable to wear outside. They won’t be too exposed while wearing them. They feel more familiar, as the differences are more subtle and less noticeable than in typical feminine outfits. But they won’t “Masculinize” your appearance either, as long as you’re doing the rest right. And by that, I mean that you should still do your best with makeup, shapewear, and maybe a wig.

2. You can buy them without being ashamed

Shopping for gender-neutral clothes is a task far easier than entering a store that sells stuff meant for girls. They are sold to people regardless of gender, and no one will judge you for buying them. It’s important to mention that buying feminine clothes is one of the first things cross-dressers struggle with. They spend months building enough confidence to enter a feminine store and sometimes do so only while they are en femme. But you can find gender-neutral stuff anywhere and buy them comfortably. It’s also worth mentioning that the “Thrill” of buying cross-dressing items in person is important to some of our sisters. Still, many of them cannot do so because of shame and lack of confidence. Gender Neutral clothes can solve this problem, allowing you to buy cross-dressing items in person. For example, you can order feminine stuff like shapewear, dresses, and underwear from the internet. But you can still go shopping for gender-neutral outfits in person. It adds some variance to both your wardrobe and your experience as a cross-dresser.

3. They exist in many sizes and fit most bodies

Another advantage is that they fit a lot of different sizes and body types. Men and women, on average, have different frames, with ladies being generally smaller than gentlemen. As gender-neutral clothing tries to be inclusive, they come in a wide variety of sizes to fit the most diverse frames. In other words, they try to be compatible with both men and women. And in order to do that, they have to produce outfits in many different sizes and styles, which is a major advantage for us. Many male-to-female cross-dressers, me included, struggle to find feminine clothes that fit them. It causes dysphoria and prevents us from enjoying cross-dressing. Gender-neutral clothes, on the other hand, are easier to find in any desired size.

4. We can use them in public

Another advantage is that we can wear them in public without raising any suspicion. At first sight, they won’t look too feminine but won’t make you look too masc either. It’s part of its gender-affirming properties. Some people may argue that they won’t do much to make us feel more feminine while wearing them outside. But we can use them in certain combinations to boost the feminizing potential. Wearing some light makeup and letting your hair grow might do a lot to improve such a feeling. Besides that, I recommend you wear some light shapewear, panties, and possibly a bra. Wearing gender-neutral on top will make these items hard to spot, allowing you to cross-dress in a more discreet fashion. It is an improvement for your cross-dressing experience as a whole, as you can stay en femme for longer without people noticing.

5. Some examples

We have seen the advantages, but which clothes are actually gender-neutral in that sense? We know the outfits that are typically female and the others that are associated with men. Is there an in-between? There is, thanks to the evolution of fashion in the past couple of centuries. Here, I’ll give you some examples, so you know what to look for the next time you go shopping.

● Skinny Jeans

These have become popular in the last few decades, both for men and women. They look good in almost anyone and help cross-dressers by highlighting the silhouette of their legs.

● Loose Shirts with buttons

These come in almost any existing size. It also seems to be quite popular among the LGBTQ community. They also have varied colors and prints, suiting most styles as well.

● Converse sneakers

This is an absolute classic. This footwear became a symbol of gender-neutral fashion in the early 2000s, and both young men and women like to wear it nowadays.

● Long-sleeved shirts

They are also common and have most of the advantages of the aforementioned loose shirts with buttons. However, they can make your arms look slender and more feminine.

● Blazers

Trenchcoats and blazers have also become a modern classic, with women using these on many occasions. They are stylish and sometimes make our waist look thinner, so I recommend them for cross-dressers.

How Gender-neutral Clothing Helps Cross-dressers

Gender-neutral clothes are more than a trend. They indeed help cross-dressers and trans people deal with confidence issues and dysphoria. Besides that, they are acessible and allow you to experiment with different combinations. Newcomers can start their journeys with this kind of outfit. But our experienced sisters can use them to feel more comfortable while en femme. Do you have a favorite gender-neutral outfit? If you do, tell us more about it in the comments!
