Shoes are a critical part of your outfit. They are an extension of the rest of the clothes you wear. However, despite this, they can easily be overshadowed. Hopefully, through this article, you may learn something about choosing shoes. Not just shoes to match an outfit, but shoes that elevate the outfit further.

The Importance of Support and Comfort

The first thing to talk about with shoes is that they are the only thing that separates us from the ground. As such, it’s not worth being cheap on them. Especially if you will be wearing them for long periods, such as at events or traveling for a day.

To help with this, aim for shoes with a little bit of support. This isn’t just about the sole of the shoe (the material along the base of the shoe that contacts the ground). The heel of the shoe also plays a crucial role in long-term wear. Heels with thin heels, such as stilettos, look amazing, but these shoes take longer to get used to wearing. Chunkier heels provide more support for long-term wear and are less likely to cause discomfort to your feet.

Some shoes have ankle support. This support could be provided by adding pads to the top of boots to cushion your legs. Some heels have material that rises the back of the leg and additional straps to help secure the shoe. These strap also helps support your ankle, leading to fewer rolled ankles. This improves their general wearability.

With good footwear and support, you can now play around with the design of the shoe to pull that outfit together!

A stiletto, which looks sharp and pointy, might seem like a sharp and prickly person. This means it can pair nicely with a very sharp outfit. Likewise, stilettos can also pair well with a high-end suit or evening wear.

Boots are a more solid shoe and work better with different outfits. Try them with outfits with more volume and higher material coverage. While stilettos have a sleek, professional look, boots have a more solid, practical aesthetic.

Tall or Short: Considering Shoe Height

The shape of the shoe also involves its height. This considers several parts of the shoe to determine the total height. The first is the platform height. This refers to the amount of extra material at the bottom of the shoes, both at the ball and the heel. Having a large platform will make you tall while also being stable.

The next part about shoe height is the heel. The heel is higher than the front part of the shoe, sometimes significantly so. Some shoes may be completely flat at the front, but have up to 8 inches of heel on the back.

These three aspects—the platform, the heel, and the leg—change the look of a shoe. Simple, low-heeled shoes with a minimal leg design are perfect for everyday wear. But they can also be quite boring. They don’t really enhance an outfit, but are a good choice when you don’t have any other shoes that work with the rest of your outfit. They are a classic and highly useful item for a crossdresser’s closet.

Likewise, a high platform high-heeled shoe with an ankle height is a perfect statement shoe. It can enhance an outfit with an already bold character. High platforms and heels work well with shorter skirts and dresses. They don’t work quite as well when paired with everyday items like jeans and pants.

This means you can easily have smaller heels, such as pumps, in a more vibrant colour without being too intense. Of a pair of hot pink pumps, and a pair of thigh-high hot pink boots, the boots would be far more noticeable.

When selecting shoes for an outfit, consider whether you want them to be the focal point. If so, choosing colourful shoes can help you create the perfect outfit.
