It’s true that your skin is an extension of who you are—and it deserves care and attention just like any other part of yourself does. So, this 7-day great skincare routine that I’ve concocted is not just the typical one. It’s an in-depth and personal approach to your skin and your body, from changing pillowcases to exfoliating to cutting back on sugar and finally letting your skin breathe. Well, the truth is that skincare isn’t just about products—it’s also about how you take care of yourself overall. It’s not just the products you put on your face but also how you eat, sleep, and treat yourself. This 7-day skin challenge will change everything about the way you look at yourself. And at the end of those seven days? You’ll be amazed at how much better—and more confident—you feel!
I know that sounds like a lot, but I promise you it will only take a few minutes each day to follow these steps! So, if you’re ready to make some changes for good (and start seeing real results), check more below!
Day 1: Change up your pillowcase.
You know that feeling when you wake up with a dry, tight face? Or worse, when you notice some new zits on your chin? Then, it’s time to change up your pillowcase. The skin on your face is the first thing that touches your sheets, so if they’re not clean and fresh, it’s going to impact your face. Dust mites live in all sorts of fabrics, including sheets, and they love feeding on dead skin cells. If you don’t change out your pillowcases regularly, you could be exposing yourself to those dust mites and their waste products—which means irritated skin, breakouts, and even asthma attacks!
Pillowcases made from certain fabrics like silk or satin can be very soft and smooth, but they can also trap sweat and oil from your body while you sleep, which can lead to breakouts and general irritation. Changing out your pillowcase every few weeks can help reduce these issues. So, make sure that you’re swapping out your pillowcases every week or so in order to keep those dust mites away from your face! It is essential for keeping your skin hydrated and healthy. Day 2: Wear sunscreen.
Start day 2 of your 7-day great skincare routine by wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen is the most important skincare product you can use. It boosts your immune system, helps you keep a healthy weight, and even helps you focus at work! And if you’re getting less than six hours a night? You could start seeing signs of aging, like wrinkles and dark circles (yikes!).
It’s not just a feeling: lack of sleep really does affect your skin. Studies show that people who get less than six hours of sleep a night are more likely to have acne and wrinkles than people who get seven to eight hours. I know that you’ve been having a good time so far—but don’t forget that it’s important to take care of yourself too! On this 3rd day, I want to encourage you to sleep early so that you can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. It’s important to give your body time to recover from all of this hard work, so don’t forget: sleep is important! I also want you to remember that all of your hard work will pay off in the long run. Skincare is an investment in your future self—and if you can keep up with what I’ve laid out for today? You’re going to look 10 years younger in no time flat!
Day 4: Exfoliate.
Day 4, you’re halfway there, queen! To start the 4th day, you should exfoliate. As crossdressers know, exfoliation is a key step in your skincare regimen because it helps remove dead skin cells and clear away any built-up impurities clogging your pores. This can help to prevent breakouts and make your skin look more glowing and youthful! It also helps to brighten your complexion by removing dark spots, blemishes, and hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage and acne scars.
This process is simple: just use a scrub or mask on dry skin and rinse off after about five minutes. You’ll want to avoid over-exfoliating, though—doing so could irritate your skin or cause micro-tears in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin). You can use a scrub or a chemical peel. Scrubs are generally more effective at removing dead cells and blackheads, but chemical peels have been shown to help reduce acne scars over time. So, get ready to get your glow on!
Day 5: Cut back on sugar and processed foods.
Day 5, you’re on a roll! Start the 5th day of your 7-day great skincare routine by cutting back on sugar and processed foods. This is a great time to start thinking about what you’re eating. So that you can make sure your skin isn’t being damaged by the things you put in your body. Sugar and processed foods are notorious for causing acne breakouts, and they can also cause wrinkles and other signs of aging. When you eat a lot of sugar and processed foods, you’re not just eating empty calories—you’re also eating things that can cause inflammation in your body. Today’s tip is simple:

Day 6: Give your skin a day off.
Day 6 is a rest day! I know, I know—you’ve been waiting for this. And now it’s here! You’re finally going to get to take a break from your skincare routine. How about a little indulgence? This is when you’ll be able to see the true benefits of all the things you’ve been doing. Your skin will look and feel amazing! Today is your day off—you can skip your usual skincare routine or at least take it easy. Your skin will thank you for this break from all that cleansing and exfoliating, and you’ll feel refreshed and ready to take on the world. This is the first time that you will not be doing anything to your skin, and it is important to give it some time to relax and recuperate from the previous five days’ worth of treatments.
Your skin has been working hard for you all week, so give it a break today. Take a step back, give yourself some much-needed me-time, and let your skin relax. I’ve got just one simple thing for you to do today: get in a warm bath, soak for at least 15 minutes, and then spend an hour or two doing absolutely nothing but reading a book or watching your favorite show (or both!). I know that sounds like an easy day—and it really is! But don’t underestimate how important this is for your overall health. Studies show that taking time each week to unwind can help reduce stress levels and improve sleep quality. And if that doesn’t convince you that taking time for yourself is worth it? Well… I don’t want to tell anyone else what to do!
Day 7: Clean your makeup tools/brushes!
You’ve made it through the week! Yay, way to go, queen! The last step in your 7-day great skincare routine is to clean the makeup tools/brushes you’ve been using! Your skincare routine starts with the right tools and ends with cleaning those tools. It’s important to remember this as you get ready for bed every night and start your morning routine. Cleaning your makeup brushes helps keep them looking like new and will extend their lifespan. Cleaning them also helps prevent breakouts by reducing the number of germs and bacteria on them.
To clean them, you only need warm water and a few drops of cleansing oil or gentle soap. First, wet the brush with warm water and use it to apply the cleansing oil or soap over its bristles. Then, rinse it under running water until the soap/oil is removed from the bristles. You can then pat dry with a paper towel or let air dry overnight (if you’re feeling lazy). Repeat this process daily until you notice that no more dirt collects on your brush during application. Then just do it once a week!
