When we’re trying out new skincare products, we’re often looking for a miracle. We want to banish wrinkles, moisturize our skin, and get rid of breakouts. But sometimes, the results are less than ideal and can even be downright distressing. When you’re trying out a new skincare product, you have to be prepared for the possibility of skin purging.

1-How to deal with skin purging as a crossdresser

As MtF crossdressers, our skin needs delicate care, and this skin purging phenomenon might make your skin get worse before it gets better. When you start using a new product (especially one with active ingredients), your skin might get irritated or inflamed in response. This happens because the active ingredients are working on your pores and breaking down the buildup of dead cells inside them. You may notice some redness, dryness, stinging, itching, or even small bumps or pimples on your face as these changes take place. This is normal! It’s simply your body’s way of responding to the new stimuli of this new product.

I know that every crossdresser have different skin type—and that’s why I encourage patience when it comes to your skincare routine. But it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into before you start. In this article, we’ll discuss what skin purging is, how it happens, and some ways to prevent it from happening to you!

1. Don’t discontinue using that product

Skin purging is a common side effect of using a new skincare product. It may be alarming when you first notice it, but don’t worry—it’s actually a good sign! I know that skin purging can be scary, but there’s no reason to panic.  However, don’t hastily discontinue using that product! The reason for this is that our skin is very sensitive and there are many things that can cause an allergic reaction or irritation if they don’t agree with our skin type. That’s why testing out new products slowly is essential in order to find out what works best for you. Your skin needs time to adjust to the new product. For example, if you apply a serum with vitamin C for the first time and it makes your skin feel tight and uncomfortable, don’t be scared! You might have just used too much or applied it too close to the eyes or mouth area. Try applying less next time and see if that improves things for you.

So, how do you know what products are best for you? The key is to be patient. You can’t expect results overnight – even if you really want them. You need to allow your skin time and space to adjust. It just means that the product is working its way through your pores and removing impurities and dead cells from the surface of your skin. It’s important to give it at least 4-6 weeks before deciding whether or not it’s right for you.

2. Wash your face twice a day

Skin purging is a frustrating and scary phenomenon that happens to a lot of people when they start using a new product. It’s not uncommon to experience skin purging when you first begin using a new skincare product. If you’re dealing with skin purging, you may be tempted to just give up. Who wants to deal with that? But trust the process, it’s not as bad as it sounds.

First, wash your face twice a day with warm water and an oil-free cleanser. This will help keep your skin hydrated and reduce the chances of dryness or flaking. After cleansing, apply moisturizer to your face—but don’t overdo it! When you’re first starting out with a new product, be sure to only apply enough moisturizer so that your skin stays hydrated throughout the day. You’ll want to avoid over-moisturizing at this stage because it could actually cause more irritation and dehydration in the long run. Finally, remember that this too shall pass! Your skin is going through a rough patch right now but don’t worry—it’ll be back to normal soon enough!

3. Avoid trying home remedies

In a nutshell, you should avoid trying home remedies on your face while your skin is purging. Halt from using any home remedies or treatments on your face while your skin is purging, even hydrating ones. Even those are to be avoided at this time because they could exacerbate skin sensitivity and cause uncomfortable rashes. It’s tempting to try all kinds of things—I know! But when your skin is purging, it can be especially hard to resist the urge to try and fix it yourself, because I know how frustrating it can be. But if you do try any at-home treatments while your skin is purging, they could actually make things worse.

For example, if you use an exfoliating scrub or an acne mask while your skin is purging, you’ll end up irritating your skin and making it more likely that you’ll get more breakouts. And if you use something like retinol or glycolic acid? That can actually cause irritation and inflammation on top of what’s already going on with your skin right now (and don’t even get us started on salicylic acid). So, unless you have a prescription for one of those products from a crossdresser supplier (and only after talking with them about whether it’s safe for your situation), it’s best to leave them off the table until your skin has calmed down—which will happen eventually! Avoid any home treatments or remedies on your face until the purge has passed.

4. Avoid using harsh products

It’s totally normal for your skin to react to new products by producing more oil and acne. Remember that your skin differs from traditional women. Your skin is just trying to get rid of the dead skin cells that have been built up for years, so it can start fresh again. However, it may take a few weeks for this process to finish up. While you wait, there are a few things you can do to make sure the process goes smoothly. First, avoid using harsh products.

It’s important to realize that the skin care product you’re using is already exfoliating your skin to get rid of dead skin cells and increase cell turnover. So, using any additional hard exfoliation like scrubs or alcohol-based toners can be irritating for the skin. For MtF crossdressers who have dry or sensitive skin, it will be even more important to avoid harsh products during purging, as they may cause irritation or breakouts on top of existing acne or dryness.

Instead, opt for gentle cleansing oils and water-soluble cleansers that won’t strip away too much moisture from your skin. Using gentle cleansers is one way you can help prevent irritation while purging occurs on your face or body. Look for cleansers that contain ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid which are great at helping hydrate your skin without stripping away its natural oils. As well as natural ingredients like tea tree oil or aloe vera gel! These ingredients are great at soothing inflammation while still helping to control oil production on the skin surface—which is what causes acne in the first place!

5. Wash your pillowcase more often

If you’re experiencing skin purging, chances are that your pillowcase is the culprit. Wash your pillowcase more often! A dirty cotton pillowcase can irritate the purging skin. So, it’s better to keep the pillowcase clean and follow basic skin care hygiene.  A pillowcase acts as a magnet for dirt and oil that would otherwise be removed from your skin by washing. Washing your pillowcase regularly helps you avoid this problem by removing the dirt before it has time to sink into your skin.

A dirty cotton pillowcase can irritate the purging skin. Keep the rest of your bedding clean as well by washing sheets weekly and changing duvet covers every few months. Your pillowcase can become a breeding ground for bacteria, which can irritate your skin and cause it to purge even more. It’s best to wash your pillowcase frequently (every week or so), especially if you have acne-prone skin. You can also try using a dry shampoo to keep your hair fresh between washes.

6. Talk to a dermatologist

If you’ve done all of the above and the effects of skin purging persist, or if they worsen, talk to a dermatologist. Some crossdressers experience mild irritation when their skin begins to purge by getting rid of impurities and excess oil.

If these effects are severe or last for more than a week, it’s important to seek medical attention. You may have developed an allergic reaction or irritation from an ingredient in your skincare products.

Having flawless, smooth skin is truly important for crossdressers. However, skin purging is unavoidable, but by following the tips above it’s really manageable. This goes to show that we take care of ourselves.  It’s a crucial part of the process, and shows just how we care about your femininity.
