The Current State of Trans Women in the LGBTQ Community

02/15/2024

Hey, darlings! Today I’ll walk you through the current state of trans women.

And if you want to know if you’re transgender woman, make sure you read till the end.

I’ll also answer some of your questions like if trans women have periods and where you can meet fellow trans women. Let’s start by understanding who is a trans woman.

What Does It Mean To Be a Trans Woman?

When we’re born, people decide if we’re a boy or a girl based on how our bodies look like.

A trans woman is a person who was born male and labeled a boy but they identify as a woman.

What most people don’t know is that there’s a difference between transgender people and crossdressers.

A crossdresser is a man who loves dressing up in women’s clothes. They do this to express their personality and to experiment.

But a trans woman dresses and identifies as a woman, even though her birth certificate says that she is male.

Underwear for Trans Women

Coming out as a trans woman can be emotionally challenging. At this time, you need items that make you feel feminine and boost your confidence.

A great item is a sexy underwear gaff that you can wear on a dinner date.

A gaff is an underwear that is designed to help you hide your bulge. Once you wear it, it gives you a smooth silhouette.

Roanyer has a variety of trans-friendly gaff underwear collection that you can choose from such as:

Thongs

Hiding gaffs

Lace

Low waist

Strappy lace boxer briefs

Plus, if you don’t know how to tuck, you can just wear a gaff to smoothen your body and hide your bulge.

Trans Woman Restroom Experience

As your big sister, I’ll be honest with you. This has been one of my biggest challenges as a trans woman.

Most people don’t have to think twice about which restroom to use. But for trans women, this decision is complicated and even dangerous.

I remember the first time I used a public toilet. I waited until the ladies’ restroom was completely empty. Then I dashed in and out as fast as I could.

I was still on feminizing hormone therapy and I looked like a man. I still had a lot of facial hair, very broad shoulders, and a deep voice.

But the last thing that I wanted was to make a fellow woman uncomfortable.

It’s really sad to know that 70% of trans people have had a bad experience with public toilets.

Some like me have received dirty looks. But others have even been beaten up.

And the crazy thing is that even when we go through this discrimination, no one has ever reported a trans woman attacking them in the restroom.

But the situation isn’t all that bad. I mean, things are changing now. Legislations are in place to keep us safe in public washrooms.

Trans Women in Sports

Despite the discrimination that trans women like me have been facing, I can pretty much say that most of us are iconic.

Why?

Because we don’t let the hate get to us. We only have love to give and we keep breaking free from the cages that society tries to lock us in.

A great example is these two iconic trans women in sports.

Fallon Fox

Legends like Fallon Fox, the first transgender woman in UFC, show us that we should never hide and play small.

She has faced struggles like people commenting that she has an unfair physical advantage over her opponents and negative criticism from the public. Despite these, she continues to follow her passion for MMA.

Lia Thomas

Another iconic example is a professional swimmer called Lia Thomas.

Before Lia came out as a trans woman, she was swimming for the men’s team at her former university.

Lia is one of the most famous transgender women on the planet.

After coming out as a trans woman, she began swimming for the women’s team. She has also made history by being the first trans woman to win an NCAA Division national championship.

Can Trans Women Have Periods?

Let me answer this question with a personal story.

My friends usually tell me that I’m lucky that I don’t get periods.

You see, as a trans woman, I wasn’t born with ovaries or a uterus. This means that I can’t have the usual periods experienced by natural women.

Deep down I know my friends’ comments are meant to be funny.

But I always feel bad when they say it.  It reminds me of the experience I’ll never get to have.

When I started taking estrogen shots, I would sometimes wake up with cramps and feeling bloated.

Honestly, I thought my body was acting up and manifesting PMS symptoms since I had longed for periods for so long. But this happened again the next month, and by month two, I had to know what was going on.

So I called one of my transgender friends and she taught me about our special kind of periods.

Research shows that when trans women start taking anti-androgens like estrogen to promote breast growth and slow down the growth of body hair, they can experience PMS-like symptoms.

So, if you’re experiencing your trans woman periods for the first time, don’t be afraid to embrace it.

Get some ice cream and chocolate and talk to other trans women like me who understand exactly what you’re going through.

Can Trans Women Get Pregnant?

If I’m being honest, many trans women long to take maternity pictures and give birth to a healthy baby.

But we can’t experience this since we don’t have a uterus to help us carry a child.

Currently, the world doesn’t have the technology that we need for a uterus transplant.

But in the future, I hope that science develops so trans women like me get the chance to get pregnant.

Famous Trans Women

Here are some of the famous trans women. Two of them are famous actresses and the other is a famous reality TV personality.

Caitlyn Jenner

We all know of the Kardashian family. They are one of the wealthiest families in the world and I can only dream of the life that they have.

In 2015, the father of the Kardashians, Bruce, made news when he came out as a trans woman. She did this after divorcing Kris Jenner and changing her name to Caitlyn Jenner.

According to Hollywood, she’s still close to her daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

Laverne Cox

If you’re like me and you love bingeing shows, then you’ve probably heard of Orange is the New Black.

It’s a popular show on Netflix where a trans woman, Laverne Cox, acts like a prisoner who is trying to get hormone treatment.

Her acting in the show was so good that she was nominated for an Emmy award.

She is also the first trans woman to be on the cover of Time magazine.

Hunter Schaffer

If you haven’t watched a show called Euphoria, can you just stop what you’re doing and go watch it? I’m just kidding.

In the show, a trans actress, Hunter Schaffer, acts as a trans woman called Jules. Throughout the series, you can see how Jules struggles to navigate friendships, love, and sex as a trans woman.

Where To Meet Trans Women

Believe it or not, it’s easy to connect with other trans women because of social media, especially if you love scrolling through TikTok like me.

When you open TikTok, you can find transgender-friendly accounts where trans women share their coming-out stories.

Other great places to find fellow trans women are Facebook groups, Discord, and Reddit.

Once you sign up, feel free to share your experiences and ask questions.

And if you meet people who are not yet ready to come out, you can share with them affirmations for trans women trapped in the closet.

This way, you can give back to the community and be the big sister that you wish you had when you were coming out.

Final Thoughts

The one thing that I’d like you to take away is that living as a trans woman isn’t easy. We face different challenges each day.

But we keep proving that we can face anything that comes our way.

And if you’re like me, you know that it’s worth it.

I think it would be worse to be someone I’m not. If you live pleasing people, you’ll only end up unhappy.

If you’re struggling to come out, please know that you’re not alone. There’s a loving community of trans women that is ready to guide you.

And if you’re wondering,  is it too late to have an MTF transition? My answer is, it’s never too late to be yourself.

I have had the chance to meet trans women who came out in their 40s. And they are now happier than ever.

So if you want to come out as a trans woman, just know that we are ready to support you. All the best love.
